新たなタンパク質の構造決定手法として,クライオ電子顕微鏡による単粒子構造解析が注目を集めている.本手法は試料に対する制約が少なく,数十キロダルトンのタンパク質から数百メガダルトンのウイルス粒子に至るまで同じ方法で解析できる(Figure 1).また,その空間的な自由度を生かしてタンパク質の各刺激に対する動的構造変化や動態解析も可能となる.本総説では,クライオ電子顕微鏡単粒子構造解析の原理と,これを可能にした画像記録装置と解析手法の進歩について解説し,さらに動的なタンパク質構造解析への応用についても紹介する.

About 40 years ago, the basic concept of cryo-electron microscopy was introduced, where biological specimens were kept close to nature state by being embedded in vitreous ice and observed directly with electron microscope. Since then, technology and equipment have improved significantly, making it now possible to determine the atomic coordinates of many biomolecules. Here, we will introduce the latest structural study of biomolecules using single particle cryo-electron microscopy.

Smartphones are beneficial in various situations, such as searching for information, taking photographs, listening to music, and socializing. However, various problems related to smartphone overuse have also emerged. This study proposes a system that encourages users not to overuse their smartphones without forcibly restraining their behavior with usage restrictions and warnings. The proposed system notifies the user through an anthropomorphic character installed in the user’s smartphone, which sends messages to discourage excessive use of the smartphone. To imbue the character with personality, messages which encourage moderate use of the smartphone are complemented with messages of sympathy for the situation, suggestions for other actions, reprimands for overuse, and utterances about the character itself. The system was experimentally evaluated on 25 college students. The results showed that message notification by an anthropomorphic character can improve users’ motivation to reduce their smartphone use.

<p>The typical input for the mirror interface is the user's life-sized video stream. Because of this, the reachable area depends on the user's arm length and users sometimes have to intentionally move forward to select objects. In order to avoid such movement, we propose two new methods for selecting the target object with the mirror interface. The first is a pointing stick method which uses a virtual pointing stick that functions in a similar manner to a physical pointing stick.The second is a dragging method which allows users to drag targets towards the user's palm. The experimental results indicate that both of new methods are able to expand the reachable area compared to the traditional method, so that users do not have to move to select objects. Furthermore, it is also found that the combinatorial input of the traditional method and the pointing stick method is suitable for the mirror interface. </p>

<p>The mirror interface can be used for various environments and be expected as an intuitive input method for diverse users. Visual and auditory feedbacks are used for the traditional mirror interface. In this study, in addition to these feedbacks, a tactile feedback is adopted to improve the usability of mirror interface. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of visual, auditory, or tactile feedback delay on the usability of mirror interface. As a result, tactile feedback did not affect the task completion time. However the delay of tactile feedback was easier to be noticed by the user than the delay of auditory feedback. Furthermore, it was found that the tactile feedback might give the user a certain feeling of selecting the desired target.</p>

The School of Social Informatics at Aoyama Gakuin University has a course called PBL (Project-Based Learning), which is taught using an LMS (Learning Management System). However, difficulties are sometimes experienced in the course that sometimes inhibits the achievement of good results. One method to address potential problems is to encourage a sense of competition among the students. In addition, support is often necessary for the creation of cooperative relationships. Therefore, in 2014 we introduced a case management support system called Salesforce. The preliminary effects of Salesforce are presented in this study. The results revealed that instructors were able to respond more quickly to the students' questions. Furthermore, it was confirmed that competition among the students was greatly enhanced using the Salesforce system.

マルチモーダルコミュニケーションでは,音声,ジェスチャ,オブジェクト操作など異なるモダリティーの振る舞いが同時にかつ適切なタイミングで生じている.本研究では特にテレビパソコン操作時におけるマルチモーダル対話型ヘルプエージェントに注目する.まずWizard-of-Oz法を用いて利用者-ヘルプエージェント間の対話例を収集し,対話的なヘルプエージェントでは利用者の状態の確認とそれに伴う補助的な説明が行われることを示す.さらに利用者-エージェント間の対話状態を予測するための確率モデルをベイジアンネットワークにより構築し,ヘルプエージェントが補助的な説明を行う最適なタイミングの予測を行う.
