It is experimentally known that the insert tools significantly change in their cutting performances when being subject to an electric field. For example, electrically/magnetically treated inserts show mach longer tool life (average 2 times) than those untreated. This research takes the first step to develop a very low cost system for electrical/magnetic insert treatment, and systematically investigate the electrical effects on the tool performance. A series of cutting tests have been executed to compare the tool performances between the treated/untreated tools. The tool performance has been evaluated from viewpoint of magnetic flux distribution, hardness and flank wear. The ultimate results lead to an analytical conclusion and a principle for tool performance optimization.

By the development of the field of calculation dynamics, the CAE software is complicated with many functions. In addition, it is difficult to predict various analytical techniques and methods that will be suggested from now on. Therefore the software development using a design pattern is flexible, and extensibility is provided. We put Visitor pattern ,Decorator pattern together, and this article applied the Option pattern that simulated an aspect point to FEM program and evaluated the effectiveness and utility.

It is important to the scaffold with honeycomb structure for tissue engineering because of shortage of donors. In recently, scaffold made of segmented polyurethane (SPU) has been investigated as a new scaffold's material. However, surface condition of the scaffold must be modified by any process because the SPU is not enough for biocompatibility. To solve this problem, Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) films, with much attractive properties such as biocompatibility, chemical stability and anti-corrosion, are fabricated on the scaffold with honeycomb structure. The samples were evaluated by scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and contact angle measured. The biocompatibility of the samples has been estimated using the mouth fibroblasts (NIH-3T3) cells in the D-MEM solution while 4 days. These analyses show that the DLC coating on scaffold with honeycomb structure is expected for surface finishing treatment with biocompatibility.

Generally, a stroller is a vehicle that moves the flat ground. It is dangerous to go up and go down the stairs with an infant on a stroller. When going up the stairs, a parent (or baby sitter) should shoulder the folded stroller at the same time as holding the infant in his/her arms. Therefore, it becomes parents with a considerable load. On the other hand, a variety of stair climbing mechanisms are researched and developed. But these mechanism needs the large-scale system, for example an electrical motor or a fixed rail. In this study, we develop the stroller that is possible to go up/down the stairs smoothly without electricity. The suggested stroller is handled easier than an existing stroller.

The aim of this study is the fluid dynamic evaluation of a hydrodynamic levitation centrifugal pump developed by AIST. Since the Pump has a hydrodynamic bearing rotating at 1900rpm, we introduced a new high-speed visualization systems with Double-pulse YAG laser. Visualized sections were the impeller, and outlet regions. The result of flow visualization showed good correlation with animal experiment and CFD.

Titanium and silicon were sputtered on the surface of the fiber polymer, using the low-temperature plasma. Tensile tests and hardness test were performed to check the mechanical properties, and these materials will be developed to the products as the high-performance fibers.

To clarify the relation to the power generation of the fractal and the solar battery, the amounts of power generation when not using it in case of the case to use the fractal figure were compared in this research. The figure prepared two kinds (the Sierpinski carpet and Sierpinski gasket). In addition, each reversing figure was prepared and it experimented. The experiment measured the change in the amount of power generation while changing the complexity in the figure. As a result, it was clarified that the amount of power generation changed when the fractal figure was used

The symplectic semi-Lagrangian (SSL) method was developed in order to improve the preservation of physical quantities of semi-Lagrangian method. In the method, symplectic integrators are adopted in searching for the upstream point in the semi-Lagrangian method. The purpose of this paper is to verify the validity of symplectic Semi-Lagrangian method for a practical fluid problem, that is two-dimensional incompressible viscous flow. We compare here two kinds of implicit symplectic integrators; second-order gauss method and second-order trapezoidal rule method. The computed results show that the SSL can take such large time-step size over Courant number 1 without loosing computational accuracy. It also turns out that second-order gauss method is more accurate than the trapezoidal rule method.
