This paper presents new methods of detecting missed arithmetic optimization opportunities for C compilers by random testing. For each iteration of random testing, two equivalent programs are generated, where the arithmetic expressions in the second program are more optimized in the C program level. By comparing the two assembly codes compiled from the two C programs, lack of optimization on either of the programs is detected. This method is further extended for detecting erroneous or insufficient optimization involving volatile variables. Two random programs differing only on the initial values for volatile variables are generated, and the resulting assembly codes are compared. Random test systems implemented based on the proposed methods have detected missed optimization opportunities on several compilers, including the latest development versions of GCC-5.0.0 and LLVM/Clang-3.6.

Achilles need not catch the tortoise, although Achilles is faster than the tortoise. Zeno's premise does not determine whether Achilles can catch up. In this paper, I clarify this fact through a critical examination of Noya (2005), which criticizes Aoyama (2002) and Uemura (2002). Noya's solution smuggles the unnecessary premise of equal ratio to make Achilles catch up. However, his solution gives a new idea about what speed is. In the last part of this paper, I develop this idea and explain the reason why Achilles usually catches up in the actual world.

「どうぶつしょうぎ」¹⁾ は 2008 年に女流棋士の北尾まどか初段によって考案されたボードゲームである.将棋に類似しているが,将棋と比べて非常に簡潔なルールになっている.「どうぶつしょうぎ」 は二人完全情報零和ゲームであり,すべての局面の理論値 (勝ち,負け,引き分けのいずれか) が決定可能である.本論文では,後退解析 (Retrograde analysis) をベースにしたプログラムを用いて初期局面から到達可能なすべての局面の理論値を求め,初期局面が後手必勝であり勝ちに要する手数が 78 手であるという結果を得た.また,「敵陣へのひよこ打ち」 が有効である局面が存在することなど,いくつかの興味深い性質を確認することができた.

除草剤グリホサート耐性の性質を有する遺伝子組換え大豆(GM大豆)の安全性を確かめる目的で,ラットを用い,GM大豆および非遺伝子組換え大豆(Non-GM大豆)を30%の割合で添加した飼料による104週間摂取試験を行った.また大豆に特異的な作用を観察する目的で,一般飼料(CE-2)を大豆と同様の期間摂取させた.GMおよびNon-GM大豆群とCE-2群間には,検査項目の一部に差が見られたが,GM大豆群の体重,摂餌量,血液学的および血清生化学検査結果,臓器重量には,いずれもNon-GM大豆群と比べて顕著な差は認められなかった.組織学的にもGM大豆に特徴的な非腫瘍性病変や腫瘍性病変の発現や自然発生病変の発現率の増加は認められなかった.GM大豆の性状はNon-GM大豆と顕著な差はなく,飼料に30%まで添加し,104週間摂取させても障害作用はないものと考えられた.

我々は独自開発した自動レコメンド手法によるレコメンドエンジン"AwarenessNet"をオンラインショッピングサイトbk1に導入し、レコメンドサービスについての実証実験を行った。従来、レコメンドエンジンのアルゴリズムの有効性はシミュレーションによる予測精度の評価やサンプルユーザへのアンケート調査によって評価される。しかし、その評価結果から実際のオンラインショッピングサイトへ導入した際の導入効果を見極めることは困難である。本報告では、実運用サイトでのレコメンドシステムの実証実験を行うことにより、従来の評価手法では評価することができなかった、レコメンドエンジンのビジネス面での導入効果についてその事例を示す。We introduced the recommender system "AwarenessNet" by the automatic recommendation technique for developing originally into online shopping site bk1, and did the demonstration of the recommendation service. The effectiveness of the recommender system is evaluated by the evaluation of the predictive accuracy by the simulation and the questionnaire survey to the sample user so far. However, it is difficult to ascertain the introduction effect when introducing it from the evaluation result to an actual online shopping site. This research shows the case about the introduction effect on the business side of the recommender system where the recognition cannot have been done by doing the demonstration of the recommender system in the real operation site in a past evaluation technique.

This paper derives from a grounded theory study of how Medical Directors working within the UK National Health Service manage the moral quandaries that they encounter as leaders of health care organizations. The reason health care organizations exist is to provide better care for individuals through providing shared resources for groups of people. This creates a paradox at the heart of health care organization, because serving the interests of groups sometimes runs counter to serving the needs of individuals. The paradox presents ethical dilemmas at every level of the organization, from the boardroom to the bedside. Medical Directors experience these organizational ethical dilemmas most acutely by virtue of their position in the organization. As doctors, their professional ethic obliges them to put the interests of individual patients first. As executive directors, their role is to help secure the delivery of services that meet the needs of the whole patient population. What should they do when the interests of groups of patients, and of individual patients, appear to conflict? The first task of an ethical healthcare organization is to secure the trust of patients, and two examples of medical ethical leadership are discussed against this background. These examples suggest that conflict between individual and population needs is integral to health care organization, so dilemmas addressed at one level of the organization inevitably re-emerge in altered form at other levels. Finally, analysis of the ethical activity that Medical Directors have described affords insight into the interpersonal components of ethical skill and knowledge.

文献データベースと電子ジャーナルをリンクするシステムとして,リンクリゾルバが利用されている.本論文では,文献データベース,電子ジャーナル,リンクリゾルバそれぞれのアクセスログを解析することにより,リンクリゾルバの影響の分析を試みた.この結果,データベースの検索結果からリンクリゾルバを経由して幅広い分野の雑誌タイトルに利用者を誘導できる効果が確認できた.このとき,リンクリゾルバは,PNASやScience,Natureなどの総合科学雑誌と比較して分野に特化した雑誌へ多くの利用者を誘導している.特に,Web of Scienceのような収録範囲の広いデータベースの利用においてこの効果は顕著であり, リンクリゾルバの導入は特定分野の雑誌論文の可視性を高め,利用に結びつける効果があることを明らかにした.The link resolvers provide links between articles published in electronic journals and bibliographic databases. We report on analysis of the log files of a link resolver, bibliographic databases and electronic journals. We have found that the link resolver can lead users from bibliographic databases to electronic journals in a wide range of research fields. In addition, we found that the resolver would lead users more often to journals of specialized subjects than to those of wide subject coverarge like PNAS, Science and Nature. This effect is remarkable in use of generic database like Web of Science. The former are usually accessed to e-journals websites whereas the latter are more frequently accessed more than before as a result of references from the link resolver.

In this paper I read the text of Confucian Analects from the viewpoint of “learning”. Here, “learning” means the process of understanding something which causes the transformation of the self who understands something. If the process of logical calculation proceeds with the transformation of the self who performs this logical calculation, it is learning. This self-referential dynamical process is the core of the theoretical structure of Confucian Analects.This paper is organized as follows; at first I discuss the concept of knowing (知) and describe the structure of learning in detail. I show that the famous Menoʼs paradox in Platoʼs Meno was solved by Confucius before the birth of Plato.From this perspective, I redefine the major concepts of this text such as 忠(zhong), 信(xin), 恕(shu), 禮(li), 和(he), 同(tong), 君子(junzi), 小人(xiaoren), 仁(ren), etc. Knowing oneʼs own true feeling is the most important thing for a man of virtue. I also discuss a book by Herbert Fingarette on Confucius. In the final section I indicate the similarity between the thoughts of Confucius and M.K. Gandhi.

“本”を“本”たらしめている根幹は,紙葉を一定の順序で並べて固定化する製本という行為にある。EPUBでは,spine情報がこの製本という行為に相当する。本稿では,製本という行為の果たした役割を “本”の歴史と読文行為(文書を読むこと一般)の中で相対化することにより,電子化ネットワーク化された文書一般と電子書籍の関係を考察し,将来の電子書籍の在り方についての1つの可能性を示す。

本報告書では、2010年度に実施した「博士課程修了者の進路と就職活動に関する調査」を基に、我が国の博士課程修了者の就職活動の実態を分析した。この結果、博士課程進学時は回答者(全回答者から論文博士、社会人学生および留学生を除いた一般学生(1,537名)のうち、博士課程在籍中に就職活動を実施した1,055名)のおよそ3人に1人は、博士課程進学時には国外機関を就職候補先の1つとして考えており、日本国内の機関については半数以上の回答者が複数の機関種別(教育機関(大学等)、民間企業、公的研究機関)を就職候補先として考えていたことが示された。ただし、実際の就職活動において国外機関に応募した者の割合はおよそ8人に1人程度にとどまり、複数の国内機関種別に対して応募した割合についても4人に1人程度であることが明らかとなった。また、教育機関(大学等)と民間企業では就職活動時期が異なり、就職活動期間の時間的な負荷は就職活動先によって差があることが示された。

本研究は,過疎認定地域に住む中学生の性行動と性意識の実態について明らかにすることを目的に実施した。過疎認定地域にある中学校の生徒を対象に自記式質問紙調査を行い,有効回答が得られた171名(71.3%)を分析対象とした。質問紙の内容は,属性,性行動について,性意識について,その他性行動・性意識に関連すると考えられた要因で構成した。得られた結果は,以下のとおりである。1.好きな人がいる割合,デート経験率,初デートの平均年齢において全国規模の調査と同様の結果が得られ,男女差がないという特徴も共通していた。2.今までに受けた性教育は,身体の生理や性感染症の病態的側面に関することが多かった。3.生徒たちは,家族,友人など周囲の人々と親密な関係を築いていることがうかがわれた。4.性に関する情報源は"友人"が多く,その他"雑誌"や"ビデオ"などのメディアがあげられた。5.生徒の約6割が友人と性に関する会話をしており,性に関する会話をしている生徒では友人の性的な行動や経験への関心が高かった。
