研究方法論においてデータの性質から、数値で表されるデータを量的データ性質や特徴など数値で表せないデータを質的データという2つに分類される。 本稿では、質的データを扱う研究手法である質的研究手法に焦点を絞り、質的研究手法において理解すべき基本的項目を網羅的に紹介する。

The aim of this paper is to construct a new framework for analyzing the economic activitie of Chinese People's Liberation Army. Most precedings studies on the PLA have mainly focused on the sidebusinesses of troops and their effect on military discipline. Haoever, economic activities should be analyzed in a broader perspective since they are not merely a military matter within the PLA. When Deng Xiaoping's military reform was extended to the economic sectors of the PLA, management reforms for military industries were initiated and a new financial system was introduced. Management itself was changed from a rigid administrative style to market-oriented management. Because Chinese military industries no longer receive major preferen-tial treatment from the government, they must find new ways to survive. One of these ways is the production of civilian goods. In spite of long-term guidelines to promote the separation of military functions from economic ones, the PLA has been actively involved in profitmaking activities. As one PLA researcher argues, the PLA is “one army, [but] two systems.” Shortages in the military budget are often said to be the major reason for the incomplete separation of PLA military and economic functions. However, profit-making activities by military organs were widely observed in both the KMT and the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, it is possible to assert that PLA economic activities have their roots in Chinese culture.

Introduction: A control of blood glucose is known to be the most important fact to protect development of complications of diabetes. A low-carbohydrate diet has been recognized to be one of the choices of diets for patients with diabetes. But, a very low-carbohydrate diet where the uptake of carbohydrate is lower than 130g per day is not recommended by American Diabetes Association now. Methods: We examined 16 patients who are continuing in some years a very low-saccharide diet where the uptake of saccharide is lower than 5g per diet. Results: Their fasting glucose, HbA1c, triglyceride, HDL-C, creatinine, all ionic values, pH and bicarbonate of venous blood were normal. Their ketone body and free fatty acid were higher than people who have normal diet, but their respiratory quotient was 0.72 and it assures their resource of energy changes from glucose to ketone body. Conclusion: Dietary ketosis never makes acidosis. The very low-saccharide diet is a safe and most effective diet for patients with diabetes.

In this paper, I propose to integrate two developing subjects of humanities education, namely Critical Thinking (CT) and Science, Technology and Society (STS). The two educational subjects have some motivations in common (such as fostering critical attitude and understanding science and technology), but there are aspects in which they do not fit together well. For example, the deficit model of communication is accused in STS, but the main mode of education in CT is actually based on the model. To solve the problem, I introduce a series of conceptual devices (such as 'bilateral CT model' and 'meta CT') that help the integration of two subjects. I also briefly propose a concrete model of education, namely debate-induced CT education, which naturally integrates CT and STS.

東日本大震災の発生から9か月あまりを経過した現在,被災した宮城県内の公共図書館を中心に被害状況・復旧状況を概観する。震災による被害は,地震に伴って発生した大津波による被害だけではなく,地震の揺れによる建物被害もあり,このことがあまり一般に報道されていないことを指摘した。宮城県図書館は,県域の公共図書館への復興支援として,各種事業を間接支援・直接支援という大きく2つの軸で展開した。これらの事業の主なものを紹介する。中でも,南三陸町図書館の再開までの支援について,詳細に取り上げる。さらに,県立図書館が,支援者と受援者の間で機能する役割を担っていることを明らかにし,中間組織の必要性を検討した。何が課題としてあるのかを指摘し,今後,大規模災害が発生した時に必要な支援のあり方について,現時点での考察を試みた。

東日本大震災で被災した博物館・美術館,図書館,文書館,公民館への支援活動を行うsaveMLAKの活動を,図書館に特化して紹介する。saveMLAKはWikipedia等で用いられている共同編集ソフトMediaWikiを用いた被災・救援情報のまとめサイトであり,情報の集約と共有による情報支援・間接支援・中間支援である。また,集約・共有した情報に基づき,宮城県図書館と共同して実施している被災地の図書館支援の事例を紹介する。これまでの活動の経緯と課題を示すとともに,saveMLAK以外の図書館支援活動に対する建設的な批判や提言をあわせて展開する。その上で来るべき大災害に対応するために,平常時から非常時への備えを行う恒久的な機関・機能を常設することを提案する。

「固定ド・移動ド」は単なる譜読みの方式ではなく、音楽解釈や演奏にまで深くかかわる。本学に入学してくる学生たちの大半は、現代日本の音楽教育環境を背景として「固定ド」しか知らないのだが、その現状を放置することは許されないであろう。歴史をひもといたときに明らかなのは、「ドレミファ…」は元来、階名、つまり「移動ド読みのためのツール」だということだ。一方、固定ドは平均律に調律された現代ピアノを拠り所としている。それは一見、便利かつ合理的なものにみえるが、われわれは平均律そのものの欠点をよくよく認識しなくてはならない。「良い音楽家」を目指す者には、やはり「移動ドのセンス」が必要なのである。The " fixed doh/movable doh" is not simply a way of music reading, but also a matter of music interpretation.Most students who get into our department of music expression only know the " fixed doh"against the background of music-educational environment in present-day Japan; but I think we must notoverlook this situation. When we trace the " movable doh" back to its origins, it is obvious that " dore-mi-fa…" are essentially the syllable names, in other words a tool for the movable doh reading. The" fixed doh" is based on the equally tempered piano. It seems to be convenient and reasonable, but wehave to understand sufficiently its weak points. Students who aim at becoming good musicians are requiredto have the sense of " movable doh."

Soil-to-plant transfer factor (TF) is one of the important parameters in radiation dose assessment models for the environmental transfer of radionuclides. Since TFs are affected by several factors, including radionuclides, plant species and soil properties, development of a method for estimation of TF using some soil and plant properties would be useful. In this study, we took a statistical approach to estimating the TF of stable strontium (TFSr) from selected soil properties and element concentrations in plants, which was used as an analogue of 90Sr. We collected the plant and soil samples used for the study from 142 agricultural fields throughout Japan. We applied a multiple linear regression analysis in order to get an empirical equation to estimate TFSr. TFSr could be estimated from the Sr concentration in soil (CSrsoil) and Ca concentration in crop (CCacrop) using the following equation: log TFSr=−0.88·log CSrsoil+0.93·log CCacrop −2.53. Then, we replaced our data with Ca concentrations in crops from a food composition database compiled by the Japanese government. Finally, we predicted TFSr using Sr concentration in soil from our data and Ca concentration in crops from the database of food composition.

When evaluating cancer risk of low-dose radiation, it is difficult to distinguish the actual effect from that of chance, bias, and confounding as they become relatively large. This is why the relation between radiation doses of less than 100 mSv and cancer risk is considered unknown. Based on data of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the cancer risk at 100 mSv is calculated at 1.05 times. On the other hand, the risk ratio for the relation between passive smoking and lung cancer is estimated at approximately 1.3 and judging the actual effects faced difficulties. It is almost impossible for epidemiology research alone to show that the risk ratio of 1.05 is the actual effects of radiation. The ICRP estimation, “ exposure to 100 mSv increases cancer risk by 0.5%” , has been frequently cited, however, it is not a simple excess lifetime risk of death. It will be more appropriate to indicate a value with clear definition to people in general, such as excess lifetime risk of death or excess lifetime risk of morbidity rather than the value obtained from such complicated process. Radiation epidemiology equally uses ratio and difference to indicate degrees of risk increase. Difference largely changes depending on effects of background factors whereas ratio is often relatively stable. Therefore the use of ratio would be more appropriate when comparing other cancer risk factors.

The Chernobyl disaster on April 26th, 1986, led to the emission of radioactive substances such as iodine-131 and radioactive cesium. As the Soviet Union did not control food distribution and intake, residents were exposed to high levels of internal radiation, leading to the internal radiation exposure of the thyroid gland by iodine 131. As a result, the number of people who had thyroid cancer increased drastically among those who had been under 15 years old at the time of the accident. The age predilection is about to move to 25 or older. However, there has been no scientific evidence of impacts for solid tumor other than thyroid cancer, leukemia, benign diseases, or inheritance including unborn babies. On the other hand, the accident was thought to have caused social unrest and mental damage which had far more impact than that caused by radiation exposure.In this paper, we would like to summarize the impacts on the health of the people in Chernobyl compared to those caused by the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

After the severe accident in the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, a large amount of contaminated stagnant water has been produced in turbine buildings and surrounding areas. This rapid communication reports the calculation of the radionuclide inventory in the core, the collection of the measured inventory in the stagnant water, and the estimation of the radionuclide release ratios from the core to the stagnant water. The present evaluation is based on data obtained before June 3, 2011. It was revealed that the release ratios of tritium, iodine and cesium were several tens of percent, while those of strontium and barium were smaller by one or two orders of magnitude. These release ratios of the Fukushima accident were equivalent to those of the TMI-2 accident.

The main purpose of this study was to verify the process of formation and development of the concept of aiki used by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, and his disciples. The main points can be summarized as follows: 1. The term aiki has been used to refer to particular martial arts techniques and to a spiritual state that can be experienced by practicing Aikido. Morihei taught aiki as a technique, as shown in the memorandum of the Japanese Imperial Navy Admiral Isamu Takeshita around 1930. Kisshomaru Ueshiba, Morihei Ueshiba's son, also introduced these techniques in his book, “Techniques of Aikido” (1962), etc. However, neither Morehei Ueshiba nor his son explained about aiki in detail. Kenji Tomiki and Gozo Shioda used aiki as a term of technique, but they do not seem to have taught techniques under the name of aiki. 2. Onisaburo Deguchi, the head of Omoto-kyo, used the expressions “the union between a kami and a mortal” in 1921 and “the great love of the kami” in 1935, which Morihei later emphasized in relation to aiki. Omoto-kyo heavily influenced the building of Morihei's thoughts on aiki and Aikido. Aiki was likened to the great love of the Universe, Heaven and Earth, or the kami who nurtures all nature and mortals. In short, a) aiki is the union between the kami as love, and mortals, hence the practice of aiki is the purification of mind and body; b) the practice of Aikido creates a paradise for mortals on earth; c) because the kami does not oppose anyone, a practitioner does not oppose in Aikido. Morihei's thought influenced the policy of the succeeding organization of Aikido through Kisshomaru. 3. Morihei's four main pupils inherited his thoughts through several arrangements. Shioda explained aiki as “a technique for following the laws of nature”. Tohei insisted that aiki is “the union between the ki in heaven and earth and a mortal”. Sunadomari interpreted aiki as a combative technique and a divine work. Tomiki understood the term in two ways: one is a technique that falls into the category of kuzushi (balance-breaking), and the other is the unity of ki (energy) between nature and man. As to the way that Aikido should develop in the future, we need to study further Morihei's thoughts and their development under his pupils.
