A variety of research on the sport of skiing has been conducted from various viewpoints including guidance methods, treatment of injuries, improvement of ski equipment and descent mechanism. Among them, in order to clarify ski-turn mechanisms, we described the history of the ski and proposed several issues to be resolved in ski research. Next, we were able to show, as a result of our research, that (1) ski turns are determined by the edging angle βo, and that (2) a skier's sense that body motion is making his or her skis turn is an illusion.
