Detailed observation is made for the scales and the position of sori in Davallia divaricata, its close relatives, D. dimorpha and several species in Davalliaceae with the result that the following species have non-peltate scales besides Leucostegia and D. divaricata already described: all species of Araiostegia, D. dimorpha, close relatives of D. divaricata and Davallodes viscidulum, and that the sori are placed at the end of veins in Leucostegia, at the bending point and junction of veins in Araiostegia, at the bending point in Davallodes and at the junction in Davallia. These characters are discussed taxonomically. The definitions of Araiostegia, Davallia and Davallodes are revised on the basis of such characters as scales, soral position, hairs and the arrangement of basal pinnules on a pinna. According to this definition, D. divaricata, its close relatives and D. dimorpha are here transferred to Araiostegia.
