The pinning effect of a high-temperature superconductor(HTS) realize noncontact levitation without additional devices. An HTS magnet can be easily produced by field cooling. When an HTS experiencing magnetic field is cooled by liquid nitrogen, the flux-pinning effect keeps magnetic flux trapped inside its body. It is field cooling. We developed an HTS rotary actuator system. This paper describes the design of the actuator system and a rotation speed controller. The controller is the same of the brushless DC servo motor. The experimental results showed that the rotation speed is satisfactorily controlled by the PI control law.
