The purpose is to investigate the developments of architectural design education in Japan. This research investigates the changes architectural design education related discussions reported in "Kenchiku Zasshi" edited and published by Architectural Institute of Japan from 1887 to 2005. The total class time assigned for design studio has decreased significantly. The percentage of time assigned for design studio is decreasing from the overall time of architectural education down to 84% in 1886(Meiji19), 55% in 1915(Taisho4,) and 42% in 1938(Shouwa13.) Discussions about architectural design become active after 1994. In recent years most of the discussion deals with the information technology, authorization of qualified professionals.
