Young carers " are children who routinely take care of household
chores and family members with illnesses or disabilities, which are
supposed to be the responsibility of adults. As a result, there is no
time to play with people of the same generation, and it is not possible
to build good relationships, and it can affect academic performance and
mental health. In foreign households living in Japan, there are cases
where children miss school and accompany their parents to hospitals or
city halls because of their parents who cannot speak Japanese, or take
care of household chores and siblings in place of their working parents.
There is a movement to correct "young carers" in various countries,
and Japan has just started to develop laws.
