N-substituted 8-aminoquinolines were prepared by the Bucherere reaction. 8-Hydroxyquinoline and amine (or diamine) was heated in a glass autoclave provided with a stirrer. The derivatives were obtained in excellent purity and high yield. By coupling these amine with benzenediazonium chloride, several azo dyes were synthesized. The acid dissociation of these dyes was examined.
