Les Misérables, written by Victor Hugo, a writer who was also a republican politician, has many adaptations like musical shows, literature for children, cartoons and animations. Considering the fact that quite a small number of studies have been made to make clear the connections between the original work and its adapted versions, this article focuses on the various adapted counterparts of Les Misérables, especially in the field of literature for children and musical shows. And then to understand characteristic features of adapted counterparts of Les Misérables, comparison will be made with some equivalent works of The Happy Prince of Oscar Wilde and Anne of Green Gable of Lucy Montgomery.

This paper focuses not only on the definition of “Christian literature for children”, but also on the religious aspects of two books, namely, The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888) and The House of Pomegranates(1891) by Oscar Wilde. Although these two books are well-known as children's literature, there are few studies about them. In these books for children, Wilde praised God in various ways. In this sense, these two books are definitely different from Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Grey (1890) and others. So, Irespectively investigated several definitions of “Christian literature” and “Literature for children”, and I haveclarified the idea of “Christian literature for children” as well as the religious aspects of his short fictions.

This paper focuses on the aspects of art for art's sake and religious sense through The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) which was written by Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of the most well-knownworks by Wilde and has been regarded as the immoral novel. However his short fictions for children, namely, The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888) and The House of Pomegranates (1891) are filled with his religious sense. I have investigated religious aspects in The Picture of Dorian Gray, and have clarified not only the coexistence of art for art's sake and his religious sense but also the conflict between both of them.
