This paper intends to clarify the means of having a job for women in pre-World War II Japan. I investigated articles about consultations for personal problems in the women’ s section of the Yomiuri Shimbun Newspaper, and there I examined the struggles of working women. As a result of my analysis, the following four findings were obtained. First, struggles of working women concentrated love and marriage more dominantly than other job categories. Second, working women relatively went well in love but they were opposed or prevented by their and their lover’s families or relatives when they faced with marriages. Third, it would appear that the reason they tend to fall into such a situation was that they and their lovers met at workplace but they tend to have different educational background. And fourth, the root cause that struggles of working women concentrate love and marriage more dominantly than other job categories were that many working women, especially women who worked as clerical job and service job were put the situation which they were hard to avoid thinking of marriages as goal of employment period because they faced with retirement young age system and the severe employment situation such as low wages.
