An international comparative study of Learning Spaces (Active Learning Classrooms, Collaborative Lecture Theaters, Learning Commons, Learning Centers) has been launched in 2016. Still ongoing, it seeks to identify the internal and external dynamics that are leading an institution to establish such innovative physical spaces, and to qualify the reality of the transformations they induce on the campuses. Among them, the Learning Centers and the Learning Commons, are very directly connected to the university libraries, and are sometime considered as representing their mid or long-term future. Beyond trans-continental trends, this study has highlighted local specificities on the strategic and operational matters of the Learning Spaces. This paper proposes to focus on the Japanese ones, through the prism of libraries.
