Information Commons or Learning Commons are now recognized as a newly developed service model in academic libraries. However, these are a 'formative concept' that is still evolving in practice at libraries. First, this paper describes the characteristics and levels of so-called commons concept, which are different from those of traditional services. Then, the conceptualization of the Information Commons / Learning Commons is discussed in terms of the library's strategic fit with the outside world. The changes in the development of learning theory and net generation traits, aspects of the outside world, are discussed. The author argues that the two Commons should have the important position of 'Ba' for nurturing knowledge and learning.
