The purpose of this study was to determine the"housing expense"portion of"necessary living expenses"of the urban home-owning working class,and to clarify the characteristics of this spending behavior. A functional relation Y=f(xi,zj) was postulated between "housing expense (Y) "and the various factors that are assumed to play a role in the conscious decision to spend,and multiple regression analysis was performed. xi represents socio-economic factors pertaining to income,household and housing,and zj represents expenditure factors related to household finance. In this study,xi was regarded as a control variable and,in particular,the analysis of its relationship to zj was taken into consideration. We found that this social class,in spite of belonging to the more highly paid strata of the working class,had a heavy burden of land and housing loan repayment. Because of this,members of this group reduced expenditure for secondary wants,such as education,entertainment,and"other expenditures."Moreover,it was found that expenditures for necessities and seminecessities for daily living were in conflict with"housing expense"expenditure.本研究では,都市居住持家勤労者階層の「住生活を営むために必要な費用」を,当階層の「住居費」と定め,その支出行動の特性を明らかにすることを目的としている。上記目的達成のため「住居費(Y)」 と,その支出の意思決定に関与すると考えられる諸要因との間に, Y = f(xi,zj) の関数関係を仮定し,重回帰分析を行った。xiは,社会経済的要因(所得・世帯・住宅関連)で,zjは,家計費支出要因である。当報では,xiを制御変数と見做し,特にzjとの関係の分析に留意した。この結果,当階層は,勤労者としては高所得層に属するにも係わらず,土地・住宅の借金返済負担が大きく,そのため,教養・娯楽費や"他の消費支出"など,不急の財への支出が切り捨てられ,さらに,日常生活をする上での必需財・準必需財への支出が「住居費」支出と競合関係になっていることが明らかにされた。
