In Japan where we enjoy the world highest longevity, it is expected to train excellent care workers who support self-sufficient living of impaired people in need. In order to enhance the ability to support self-sufficient living, the care worker training program requires a survey of home economics and home economics practice, but it has not been practiced effectively enough in the field yet. It is necessary for home economics to take advantage of its characteristics the specialization and due integration of each field of home economics, and reestablish home economics of the new age so that it will contribute to the supporting self-sufficient living in the IT progressed 21st century. In purpose of realizing the motto of Science Council of Japan, "The true science is in the integration of science and technology", I examined high school teaching guidance of science and applied it in home economics. By taking a hint from NHK's life science program "tameshite gatten", I have studied how the home economics should be developed and contribute in the future to the supporting self-sufficient living in the new scientific system. If new research materials are selected out of reliable information and sublimated into a new academic system, home economics will contribute to the welfare of families and communities as well as to support environmental conservation, moreover, the home economics will be able to fulfill its social responsibility as a life support study of the 21st century.
