On Aug. 15, 2003, Erebia niphonica was searched on Todoshima I., North Hokkaido of Japan, in order to confirm the presence or absence of this butterfly. In spite of the fine weather, no specimen of E. niphonica was observed, and it is concluded that E. niphonica is not distributed in that island.
