This paper will consider the role of architectural facades in Miyazaki Hayao's movie Spirited Away with particular reference to their metaphorical function in:(1)realizing meaning in the movie and how this ought to be read and,(2)introducing messages to the audience not only as layers of metaphor to be interpreted but also as the means for the movie maker to directly bring out aspects of his movie over and above the main theme.
