In Japan the wild hybrid between the two indigenous pheasants <i>Phasianus</i> (<i>versicolor</i> group) and <i>Syrmaticus soemmerringii</i> is exceedingly scarce. Gives five authentic records. Some specimens show the plumage of <i>Phasianus</i> slightly more while others have more <i>Syrmaticus</i> pattern. They were all taken in the northern part of Honshu. Mr. K. Kobayashi's specimen taken in January, 1951 is the only one existing among collections in Japan.
