We reviewed the habitats of plants which grow on shingle river beds, based on available literature. They consist of endemics on shingle river beds and plants which grow in dry areas or grasslands. In the floodplain of the Tama River, endemics on the shingle river bed, Aster kantoensis and Ixelis tamagawaensis have been decreasing rapidly. A conservation plan for endemics should be developed and put into practice soon.
