Calcian strontianite was newly found from Torinosu limestone distributed in the Nagano, Tokaji, Furuhata, and Nishiyama areas other than the Shimomitogi (MINAKAWA, 1955). It occurs as authigenic mineral in cavities in limestone and calcite veins, associated with calcite, dolomite, fluorite ,celestine, barite, quartz and oil. It is radial aggregates of acicular and short prismatic crystals up to 1cm length, colorless with vitreous luster. Chemical compositions of strontianite estimated by X-ray powder data of d(132)Å and EDS qualitative analysis varies from SrCO_3 75mol%, CaCO_3 25mol% to SrCO_3 85mol%, CaCO_3 15mol%. It is estimated that Sr derived from coral, calcareous algae and foraminifera which formed the coral reef.
