A questionnaire survey was carried out to investigate public attitude toward insects, house apearance and household insect pests and injuries inflicted by insect pests. Subjects, aged twenty years and over lived in big cities and the suburbs. A total of 1046 answers were collected, of which 476 were from males (45.6%) and 569 were from females (54.9%). Both men and women tended to dislike insect, and especially women seemed to have wrong and unfair recognition to insects and pests. Mosquitos, cockroaches and flies were the top three insects in this order found in houses and mosquitos, wasps and gnats were the top three from which people had experiences of bites in the last few years. 39.5% had suffered from tick (or mites) bite injuries. We however consider that this percentage includes "imaginary bites". From analysis data, we found that women who disliked insects had a tendency to suffer from imaginary bites. Most of the people (82.8%) who suffered from bites used the injection type insecticide into the tatami mats which are known to known to be not effective so much.
