The state of support for parents and children in Finland was investigated because ofthat country's famously generous social welfare system. Visits were made to the citiesof Savonlinna and Turku in August 2008, with research being conducted at apreschool and a school for disabled children in the former city and at the Turku central library. Key factors are: respect for humanistic education, the importance of teacher quality,planning a personal program for each child, learning from nature and learning fromsociety itself, and the protection of parents. These suggest the importance that Finnishsociety places on the quality of life of both children and parents.
