Tritium, a developmental fuel for use in fusion reactors, has been produced in fission research reactors in Japan by extraction from neutron-irradiated ^6Li-targets. This paper describes the preliminary design of a large-scale production facility capable of producing 500 g of tritium annually. The present status of tritium production technology in Japan is also discussed.
