We studied the MRI finding of pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVS) in the knee joints of two patients. Diffuse nodular lesions of PVS were typically shown as a low intensity area, on both T1 and T2 weingted MRI. High intensity areas on T2 were intermingled within the lesions.MRI revealed not only the lesions in the joint space but also osseous lesions in the medial, lateral and posterior condyles of the femur and the intercondylar tubercle of the tibia. These results suggest that PVS invades bones from the capsular or ligamentous attachments.
