The paper is an introduction of medical social work; a brief presentatin of social and emotional factors which affect health and disease and the effect of medical treatment and recovery, and what role social worker may take within a medical setting in order to fill in the gap of patient's needs.It is developed along the following line : 1) Function of social work. 2) Illness as a phase of social maladjustment and what it means to the patients.3) Environmental factors contributing to the illness.4) Contents of comprehensive medical care analysed and their allied social welfare facilities which must be collaborated. 5) Progress in medical science with necessary division of labor and the need of integration; what they mean for the patients. 6) Psychosocial problems of the patients analysed. 7) The role and function of medical social worker within the team of clinical medicine.
