There is a conciderable incidence of out-clinic patients who complained of hypermenorrhea (10 %). Menstrual blood loss was measured by alkali hematine method and uterine abnormalities were examined by ultrasonography and hysteroscopy in the 18 patients who complained of hypermenorrehea. Only eight patients had a mean menstrual blood loss of over 60ml and anemia. The other 10 patients whose menstrual blood loss was less than 60ml, had no severe anemia. These results suggest that over 60ml of menstrual blood loss should be abnormal as objective hypermenorrhea. The number of used pads was not correlated with menstrual blood loss. In the eight patients with objective hypermenorrhea, uterine myomas were found in four patients and endometrial polyp was found in one patient by hysteroscopic and ultrasonographic examination. However, in two patients out of eight, no organic, endocrinological and blood coagulation cause of hypermenorrhea was found.
