The object of this research is to check up the relation of the following three items by experiments of the scavenging action, in a visible state, .of two stroke cycle engines. (A) The form of a cylinder-liner. (B) The flowing state of scavenging medium in the cylinder. (C) Efficiency with relation to scavenging performance. There have been carried out many investigations of the relation between (A) and (B) or (A) and (C), but no report has been found in the relation between (B) and (C). It is very difficult to investigate the relation between (B) and (C) of a scavenging action at the same time, but if working fluid is the liquid, the test becomes easy. Then several experiments were performed by the newly developed method in which the scavenging efficiency was made calculable by the observation of the change of the specific gravity of the water in the cylinder when the salt water mixed with ink was introduced there by the scavenging action. The experimental results were formulated with the scavenging characteristic curves with a consideration to the short circuiting loss and rate of diffusion, of scavenging medium. The third report contains two subjects, as shown in the titles. The first subject is the second report and also a report on the cross scavenging on two dimensional flow. The second subject is an experiment on three dimensional flow by a device using crank mechanism of an actual engine. In this experiment, it was found that there was much back flow from the exhaust ports into the cylinder at the inceptive stage of the scavenging action.
