In Nuwa Island, villagers organize annually a unique memorial service for the deceased, whitch is accompained by bon dance performance (Arabon-kuyou-odori) . The bon dance event is not only a mere memorial service of the community as a whole, but also an important occasion to come back home for those who now reside outside of the island. The analysis of the event, therefore, may have some sociological implications on social relations of villagees, who still retain tight-knit relations in the village community on the one hand, and now have wider social network beyond the village on the other. This paper aims at reporting various aspect and process of bon dance event, as an initial step for a further detailed analysis.1.
