The orientation dynamics of ferroelectric liquid crystal mixtures with ultrashort pitch (FLCUSP) in the Sm-C^* phase during the electric-field-induced switching between the two SSFLC states was investigated by means of time-resolved FT-IR spectroscopy. It was found that the dynamical behavior of orientation indicated by the C=O group in the chiral dopants is different from that indicated by the core moiety in the base liquid crystals. We also studied the orientation dynamics of SSFLC especially focusing on the relationship between orientation and rotation during the electric-field-induced switching.
