Physical properties (including shrinkage, melting point, and thermal expansion) and mechanical properties (such as strength) of inlay wax can influence casting accuracy. Using three different types of paraffin waxes with different melting points, inlay waxes were prepared at a trial base. The melting points, shrinkage, and thermal expansion of these prepared inlay waxes were measured. The bending strength, as well as strain, was also measured from these inlay waxes when the ambient temperature was controlled to 16,23, and 30℃. Main results are as follows: 1. If a paraffin wax having a higher melting point was used, the resultant inlay wax showed a higher melting point and smaller shrinkage. 2. On the other hand, when a paraffin wax with a lower melting point was used, the resultant inlay wax had a larger thermal expansion. 3. The bending strength of prepared inlay waxes was lower when tested at a higher ambient temperature. 4. Strain of inlay waxes were recorded to be larger when the testing ambient temperature was higher.
