The Japanese representative of the Asian House Martin was described as a new species designated as C[helidon] blakistoni by Robert Swinhoe (Swinhoe 1862), which is now synoymous with Delichon urbica dasypus (Bonaparte 1850). Warren & Harrison (1971) listed the specimen (BM1898.10.20.55) as the holotype. Later, Morioka et al. (2005) designated BM1898.10.20.57 as the holotype based on the month in which it was collected and Swinhoeʼs description. However, both the specimens provided no definitive evidence. This paper presents the results of a re-examination of the type specimens of C. blakistoni by referring to the notebooks of Thomas W. Blakiston, the collector of the specimens.
