The etiology of acute allergic conjunctivitis observed in many areas of Japan in the early spring of 1976 is suspected to be due to the pollen of the Japanese cedar, as are the cases in this study. The hyposensitization therapy usually takes two to three years and, in order to avoid another multiple incidence in this country, the author stress the importance of initiation of this therapeutic measure. Together with Japanese cedar pollinosis, seasonal pollinosis due to grass and Asteraceae pollens are discussed. Possible spreading of newly naturalized goldenrod in various areas in Japan and its clinical implications are mentioned by the authors.
