『シェルブールの雨傘』(1963 年製作・64 年公開)は、戦争で切りはなされる若者の悲恋物語を枠組として、台詞のすべてを歌で表現する異色のミュージカル作品である。ミュージカルの(ミシェル・ルグランの音楽への)高い評価及び現在にいたる人気に比し、その筋の展開には――すなわち、かつての恋人たちの新しいパートナーの選択には批判の声が多い。本稿では「喪失」と「再生」の観点から、筋の展開に付された意味をさぐりたい。『シェルブール』は感傷的ラブ・ストーリーに一見見えはするものの、兵士と家族がさまざまな不幸を克服し、再生を果たす物語なのである。<<Les Parapluies de Cherbourg>>, which was produced in 1963 and released in 1964, is a unique music film in which the plot is developed over the tragic love of the young couple who are to be separated by the Algerian War and the dialogue is all sung as recitative. Compared to the high evaluation of the music composed by Michel Legrand and the lasting popularity of the music so far, the development of the history, that is, the problem of who each of the couple chose as a new partner, has been often criticized. In this text, I would like to find some hidden meanings behind the development of the story in terms of 'the loss of something precious' and 'the living of a new life'. The film, <<Les Parapluies de Cherbourg>>, may appear to be a sentimental love story, but it is the very story where a soldier and his family get over various kinds of trouble and difficulty and begin to live a hopeful life.
