The number of books in the Mizuta Library amounts to over 7,100 volumes and, from 2011 to 2012, more than 3,800 volumes were donated by Prof. Mizuta. the Mizuta Library includes books and journals written by some European pre-modern thinkers such as Bodin, Lipsius, and Thomas Hobbes; Enlightenment thinkers, such as Voltaire, Lord Kames, Adam Smith, Joseph Priestley, Jonathan Swift and Pufendorf; Deists such as John Toland, Anthony Collins, and by some Romantic thinkers such as Coleridge, Madame de Staël, Chateaubriand, the Brothers Schlegel and Franz von Baader. The total number of bibliographic records in the Mizuta Library is 6,031, including journals. About 68% of the books are written in English, almost 14% in French, 9% in German, and the rest are written in Japanese, Italian, Dutch, Latin, and other languages. More than 2,200 volumes including journals were published before 1850, and were designated as rare books of Nagoya University Library and in October, 2012, the collection’s online catalogue was completed. This report describes the scope of the Mizuta Library, followed by an outline of the management of the collection, such as cataloging and preservation. It is then followed by introducing mainly rare books and journals which show the feature of the collection, and the intention of Prof. Mizuta in collecting books, which is mentioned in his various essays, such as On my library(「蔵書について」2008), My intellectual development and library building(「ぼくの思想形成と蔵書形成」2010), and others. Likewise, this report also refers to the books published by Left Book Club and books concerning the Spansh Civil War which Prof. Mizuta collected and mentions in his essays above, though they are located separately from the Mizuta Library in the Central Library. At the end of this report, some bookplates out of 290 from the rare books of the Mizuta Library are introduced.
