This paper attempts to discover the distinguishing characteristics of Japanese national universities, and to determine the strengths of each university by analyzing their midterm goals. We propose a method that extracts words from documents, analyzes them, and visualizes the features of documents on the basis of these extracted words. We developed two systems, a cross-tabulation search engine and a keyword map search engine, for the midterm goal document. In these systems, the user both decides the viewpoint to be compared and analyzed and inputs the search word, so that the relation of the words related to the search word is visualized, and a novel comparison analysis method among university organizations is realized. In this paper, we report the outline of these systems and the results of the verification of the two systems, using “regional contribution” as an example.

The purposes of this paper are to (a) develop an adaptive system with the help of the graded response model of IRT, (b) test the system with a small group of L2 learners, (c) examine the feasibility of computerized dynamic assessment, and (d) propose a new set of scoring mechanisms. We developed a computer-based adaptive system that provides students with appropriate test items and a set of graduated prompts from implicit to explicit under the conditions of mediation. We found that the set of graduated prompts successfully guided students to the correct answer and provided rich diagnostic information needed for L2 English education. With the help of the graded response model of IRT, computerized dynamic assessment will become a more advanced and practical educational assessment tool in the field of L2 studies.

This paper describes the design of a digital badge that provides support for learners who participate in blended instructional-design (ID) workshops. The workshops are hosted by Kumamoto University as lifelong learning activities, and their purpose is to introduce a practical method that enhances participants' education and supports them in applying ID in their jobs. We designed the digital badge as a tool that continues to support participants after the workshop has finished. The digital badge constitutes not just a program certification, but also an index of the learning outcomes of the blended workshop, such as online report assignments, and an asynchronous discussion record of forum posts made during the workshop. We confirmed through actual use that the acquired digital badge accumulated learning outcomes that would be useful in the participants' jobs and reflected their skill mastery.

Despite many Augmented Reality (AR) applications and development environments in existence today, almost all require 3D modeling skills in content creation. The purpose of this work is the development of a Web application that enables users to create real-size AR content without 3D modeling skills or software. The developed experimental system allows for the creation of real-size AR content using captured images via a Web application. Twenty-two out of twenty-four individuals who tested the experimental system were able to successfully create AR content. The experimental system was concluded to enable users to create AR content without 3D modeling skills.
