The necessity of shifting the policy focus from supply-side initiatives such as physical-capacity expansion to demand-side initiatives including ease of congestion is newly rising as a compelling method of improving the general ride quality of the metro users. In an effort to catch up with such shifting trend, a system schematic that will update the congestion status of the metro lines via mobile devices is suggested through this study, along with the development of a smartphone application to realize this service idea. The developed smartphone application allows the metro passengers to identify the congested area of each station platform and to receive information on the congestion level of each train and car. Through such assistance, the metro congestion information system can improve the overall convenience of the metro passengers by helping them identify the congestion level across the metro lines.

A study using permeability as the main parameter was performed to examine the drainage and clogging behaviors of different pervious concrete mixes used for pavement construction. This paper presents the findings of the clogging performance of the pervious concrete mixes against possible clogging materials found in Singapore roads. Clogging was created by introducing clogging materials progressively into the pervious concrete tested. A constant-head test was used to determine the permeability of the pervious concrete at different stages of the clogging test, and the clogging performance was determined by monitoring the reductions in permeability as clogging developed. The clogging potentials of different pervious concrete mixtures are represented and compared in terms of the deterioration trends of their respective permeability as the clogging process progresses.

This paper investigates the effects of road hump on traffic volume and noise level in a residential area in Kuala Lumpur. Field surveys were administered to measure data on traffic volume and noise level at three selected roads at Taman Keramat residential area in Kuala Lumpur. Measurement on noise levels such as LAeq, LAFmax, and LAFmin and traffic volume were undertaken for about 12 hours. The findings show that the highest traffic volume (563 vehicles per hour) and the highest noise level (75dB(A)) was measured at Road 1. The correlation analysis indicates a similar pattern in the relationship between traffic volume and noise level especially at Road 2 and Road 3. Finally, this paper concludes in drawing attention to conduct further studies on the effects of road humps in other residential areas in Kuala Lumpur to implement measures for a pleasant, harmonious and safe living environment for the community.
