Although Tuboya district is subsumed into the central areas of Naha city now, it was an independent village where was manufacturing pottery, and it was located midway between Shuri and Naha. This paper discribes that this district’s settlement pattern is not gridiron settlement pattern (格子状集落形態) which was newly formed in Ryuku period; however, this district keeps the traditional style that is consisted of complicated and twisted road networks and blocks. This paper also mentions that many Ishigantou as talisman are set to prevent the entry of evil spirits which can go straight only, reflecting the perspective of traditional geography of which was came from China. The new style, gridiron settlement pattern which was promoted to make agricultural settlements in Ryuku period, was not introduced to Tuboya district that devote themselves to manufacture pottery. Preservation of this historical district which can attract many tourists would be needed.
