The purpose of this study was to clarify the difference of care workers' thoughts (feelings and understanding of behavior) for the demand for homecoming of elderly persons with dementia. In preresearch, three elderly residents with dementia of the Alzheimer's type were chosen through participant observations and daily records in the nursing home. They had partial abilities in linguistic communication and demanded frequently to return home. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine care workers in regard to their thoughts for the demands for homecoming of each of the three. The interview records were analyzed qualitatively to be categorized. The results were as follows: (1) Thoughts of the care workers were categorized into five viewpoints. (2) These viewpoints were shown diversely in each care worker and were categorized into four types. These results suggest the importance of self awareness through reconsidering their own care processes in order to aim at better caring of the elderly.
