Symbolic feelings of bryophytes mentioned in literature and arts are analyzed and discussed. In this article, bryophytes in Chinese poems are considered. These small plants characterized by varying tones of color and texture are admired as natural features with a peculiar, simple but impressive beauty. They are also pertrayed as the symbol of quiet, seclusion and solitude. Their plants with new fresh-green shoots are rarely mentioned as a scenery of spring.
