The purpose of this paper is reviewing the Evolutionary Model of Organizing proposed by K. E. Weick, and considering its implications for Organizational Studies. The main processes of organizing are arranged as enactment-selection-retention(ESR) sequences in the Evolutionary Model. Through the detailed analysis of the ESR sequences comparing with the Contingency Theory, we found the following three points. That is to say, this model (1)makes an objection to the environmental determinism by means of the fact that the boundaries between organizations and their environments are blurred, and organizations enact their environments, (2)describes the macro properties of organizing, that is, information shared in organizations, and (3)gives the theoretical framework on organizational inertia by using the idea of organizational flexibility and stability.
