In this essay I discuss Plato's conception of justice in the Republic. In the first part I summarize the main idea of Plato's answer to the question 'What is justice?' referring to N.O.Dahl's paper. In the second part I ascertain Plato's conception of justice by focusing on the passage where the duty of descending the cave is imposed on philosophers. In the final part I criticize Plato's conception of governance that politics is the remaking of people's souls and social institutions.はじめにこの論文で私が何を論じるかを述べておきたい。論文は三つの部分からなる。第Ⅰ部では、『国家』篇の全体で、そのテーマである正義がどのように論じられ、<正義とは何か>という問題に対するその回答は如何なるものであるのかを、読み取る。第Ⅱ部では、特に何人かの解釈者にとって作品の整合的読解の試金石になってきた7巻の哲学者に課せられる<洞窟への下降義務>を正確に理解することを通して、正義とは何であったのか、をいっそう明確に読み取る。第Ⅲ部では、この正義についてのプラトンの考え-政治とは社会制度と人間の魂をイデア界の最美の秩序をモデルにして作り直すことであるという見方-を、ハンナ・アレントの批判を手掛かりにして検討する。
