Oashi (2003a) said that type A behavior pattern (type A) is psychologically composed of two components: One is a strong need for achievement the other is a need for maintaining self-esteem. The author tried to explain those two components from the view point of a dynamic psychological perspective. It is found that two components of type A behavior is well understood in terms of H.Kohut's theory of narcissistic personality and further studies from dynamic psychological perspective of type A is needed.
