To investigate the change of social recognition to the child abuse problem we examined newspaper articles on child abuse written as incidents in our previous report. In this paper, we focused on commentaries which more clearly showed the opinion of writers. Headlines in the Asahi Shimbun from April 1994 to March 2002 were analyzed. The number of commentaries on child abuse were increased after the enforcement of the law of child abuse. The articles on child abuse gradually changed from family cases to social problems. Various gender bias was seen in articles on child abuse.
