This paper analyzes the study of kanji learned in elementary schools in Japan and China. Chinese kanzi (hanzi) taught in elementary schools in China include most Japanese kanji taught in Japanese elementary schools. This means that most Japanese kanji are equivalent to Chinese hanzi, though they may differ in form.
