I made an attempt to pursue the significance of the problem of the "unemployed", which the literature in the beginning of Showa Era was motivated upon, by taking examples from the literary works around 1930's focussing upon the unemployed proletariats as a motive. Yokomitsu Riichi tried to go further than "Neo-sensationalism School" by writing Shanghai. Kawabata Yasunari wrote Asakusa Kurenaidan. The works of Shimomura Chiaki made the "Rumpen (the unemployed) literature" popular in the literary world. Hotta Shoichi's Slave Fair also concerns the problem.
