Hawaiian emotional statives can express two meanings, i.e. (1) 'somebody has a feeling of fear, happiness, pleasure, sadness, and so on', or (2) 'something (or somebody) is the cause of the feeling of fear, happiness, pleasure, sadness, and so on'. This paper examines examples of the predicative use and the attributive use of seven popular emotional statives and shows that the meaning (1) is expressed mostly by the statives in the predicative use, while the meaning (2) is usually indicated by those in the attributive use.
