Tom Griffin's two-act play The Boys Next Door portrays the lives of four mentally handicapped men involved in a program to introduce them into the mainstream of everyday life. They live in a group home sharing an apartment complex under supervision of their counselor. Offering a glimpse into their minds and lives, this play shows prejudice and discrimination against the handicapped. This study analyzes the representation of the handicapped and examines the problems of welfare for the handicapped which were represented in this play. This paper also deals with the problems of the dramatic presentation of comedy.
