From the air-dried pericarps of <i>Ruta graveolens</i> L., a trace of phenolic and nonphenolic weak bases (0.07%) were isolated by succesive extraction with petroleum ether and methanol, and subsequent treatment in the usual manner. The colorless needle crystals, m.p. 169-170° (picrate: m.p. 217-218°), obtained from the non-phenolic bases by crystallization from hydrated ethanol, were found to be identical with those of kokusaginine. The pale yellow prismatic crystals, m.p. 176° (picrate: m.p. 195-197°), obtained in 0.0018% yield from the foregoing crystallization mother liquor by chromatography on alumina in benzene solution, were proved to be those of skimmianine.
