Lower to middle tier regions of dam reservoirs often fall into the anoxic states in summer. When the anoxic state is reached, living things die, heavy metals such as manganese and iron, hydrogen sulfide and methane are eluted from mud deposited on the lakebed. Since it is not possible to release heavy metals exceeding environmental standards, an improvement of dissolved oxygen concentration in dam lakebed is required. So far, there is no system that can automatically improve the dissolved oxygen, in the lower to middle tier regions of dam lakebed. This study was carried out for developing an automatic system to improve the lakebed dissolved oxygen concentration to 6mg/L or more. The developed oxygen dissolution apparatus can diffuse a high concentration oxygen water horizontally at a rate of 1km per day. Thus, by raising and lowering this oxygen dissolution apparatus in water, a system that creates 3 - dimensional spreading of the dissolved oxygen not only to the lower tier but also to the middle tier regions was developed. The demonstration experiments, reported of the effectiveness of the system that can raise the dissolved oxygen concentration from the low oxygen-free state to the target of 10 mg / L in 5 days. Moreover, the system demonstrated its ability to automatically raise the dissolved oxygen concentration to 10mg/L in the 10m region from the bottom of lakebed.

In general, manual sorting carries out for the quality inspection of corbicula shells prior to shipment. The inspection worker drops each corbicula shells on the concrete floor, and a shell is assessed as good or bad by the sound of collision with floor. The corbicula shell containing mud or nothing is specified as a bad corbicula. This manual sorting process is time consuming and laborious. In addition, this process is often prone to mistakes. In order to overcome the problem of manual sorting, an inspection probe has been developed. The inspection probe assesses a corbicula shell as good or bad by detecting the transmitted light spectra, and it has been tested that the probe can detect good and bad corbicula shells with an accuracy of 100%. Thereafter, a quality sorting device with the inspection probe has been developed for the commercial use. A laboratory based experiments have been conducted first to evaluate the performance of developed quality sorting device. The test results showed that the sorting device can sort shells with an accuracy of about 99%. Subsequently, a comprehensive evaluation experiment have also been carried out, and the experimental results showed that our developed sorting device is able to sort corbicula shells with an accuracy of 98.6%. This results implies that the present quality sorting device is ready to use for commercial sorting of corbicula shells

Optical computed tomography, optical CT, is the medical imaging modality in which near-infrared light is used to probe biological tissues. To investigate the inside of a highly scattering medium like biological tissue, we have developed the optical CT system which can measure an intensity distribution of light pulses transmitting through highly scattering medium by using the photon counting method. Intensity distributions of transmitted light pulses were measured by changing a concentration of Intralipid-10%, a highly scattering medium, in salt solution. This experiment makes it clear that the FWHM of the intensity distribution increases gradually and a peak existing in the distribution begins to lack with the increase of the concentration of Intralipid-10%. To reconstruct an image of an object, a peak channel and a weighted integral value of the intensity distribution of the transmitted light pulse were used as a projection data in this optical CT system. For instance, an optical CT image of an absorber in salt solution with 1.3% Intralipid-10% was reconstructed from the projection data taken by this method, so the comparatively good experimental result was obtained. Furthermore, image reconstructions of a gumbo and a boiled egg of a quail were performed using the projection data by our method. As a result, we could reconstruct five species in the gumbo and detect that the yolk inclines in the boiled egg.
